A devastating and violent collision in Elizabeth has left the community mourning the loss of a 17-year-old Elizabeth High School student this morning.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. in the Port section of Elizabeth, near 1 Slater Street and First Street.
A preliminary investigation suggests that the young girl was seated in the front when the horrific collision took place.
The driver believed to be around 19 years old, survived the crash, and another teenager in the rear seat managed to escape without fatal injuries.
Authorities swiftly responded to the scene, and the Union County Prosecutor's Office has been called in to assist in the ongoing investigation.
At this point, the exact cause of the crash remains undetermined, leaving many questions and a deep sense of sorrow in the Elizabeth community.
