DEVELOPING NEWARK NJ: Suspect Robs Newark Ironbound Jewelry Store; Fires Shot During Carjacking

Police are on the search for a brazen armed robbery suspect who held up a jewelry store in Newark's Ironbound section then committed a carjacking that was used in his getaway.

The incident unfolded in the 100 block of Ferry Street shortly before 12:10 p.m when a male suspect entered the establishment and announced a robbery at gunpoint.

After the robbery, the suspect reportedly ran out the store then pointed a gun at a person occupying a 2006 Nissan Altima and fired a shot at them before taking their vehicle reports said.

The suspect is being reported as a Hispanic male who was last seen wearing a dark jacket with dark pants, a grey hoodie, and a black baseball cap with the letter "P" on it.

Police located the carjacked vehicle minutes later on Somme Street and are now searching the area for the suspect.

There were no injuries reported.
