Police in Newark are investigating an attempted abduction that was reported in the city’s downtown earlier this afternoon.
According to preliminary reports, at approximately 3:30 p.m., police received information on a possible abduction of a female at 494 Broad Street.
Police say witnesses reported that a female was taken by a 6ft tall 200-pound black male who wore dark blue pants and a black hat.
According to police, the suspect drove a newer model Dodge Charger color grey, with a NJ Temp tag license “R2268266”.
Essex County Sheriff’s officers on patrol on Raymond Boulevard located a vehicle fitting the description on Freeman Street at around 7 p.m. where they requested assistance after boxing in the car.
The driver and at least one other person was driven away in a patrol car but it is not immediately confirmed if the female was located at the scene.
Police officials say they are actively investigating the incident at this time.
UPDATED 8:01pm Police say this is a domestic related incident with the female victim and the male suspect in custody at this time.
