A threat made on a social media site had police in Newark lockdown a school, then take a teenaged boy into custody this afternoon.
The incident happened shortly before departure at the University High School in the city's South Ward where police closed off the entire block and placed staff and students on a lock-down mode as they investigated and searched for a weapon according to reports.
A 16-year-old boy was taken into custody and a gun confiscated law enforcement sources told RLS Metro Breaking News.
There were no injuries reported.
UPDATE 3:59 p.m. STATEMENT FROM NEWARK PD: Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that members of the Police Division’s SWAT Team apprehended a 16-year old male student at University High School today.
Auhorities said at approximately 2:42 p.m., police responded to the high school, located at 50 Clinton Place, on a call of a student with a weapon posting photos of himself with a gun on Facebook.
The school was put on lock down and SWAT Team members arrested the student and recovered the gun.
