There is a homicide investigation underway in Newark's North Ward as police search for a shooter who unloaded several rounds into a male that killed him early Sunday morning.
According to preliminary reports, a person contacted 911 when they said they heard multiple gunshot blasts coming from a home in the 900 block of Franklin Avenue just before 5:20 a.m.
When officers canvased the area, they found an unconscious and unresponsive male inside a residence suffering bullet wounds. Medical professionals pronounced the victim dead a short time later, according to police.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has been called to the scene to lead the investigation.
No arrests have been reported.
