DEVELOPING: Murder-Suicide Under Investigation at NJ Nursing Home

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office is on the scene investigating a reported murder-suicide inside a Hackensack nursing home. 

According to preliminary reports, sometime after 8 a.m. this morning, police received reports of shots fired at the CareOne at Wellington located at 301 Union Street. 

Police arrived and found two people dead inside the facility. 

According to reports from the scene, an unidentified person (visitor) armed with a gun entered the nursing home and opened fire on someone then shot themselves.

Both individuals were pronounced dead inside the nursing homes. 

The investigation is active and ongoing. We will bring you additional information when it becomes available. 

BERGEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR UPDATE: 

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Hackensack Police Department are investigating an apparent shooting that occurred in Hackensack on Saturday, July 15, 2023.

At approximately 8:51 a.m., the Hackensack Police Department responded to a 911 call from a nursing facility. 

Responding officers found 73-year-old Patricia Zaccario and 76-year-old Michael Zaccario (both of Wood-Ridge) deceased with apparent gunshot wounds. 

An investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Hackensack Police Department under the direction of Officer-in-Charge Captain Michael Antista.
