Passaic County Emergency Responders rescued a mother and a child from the frigid waters of the Passaic River after the pair fell through the ice on Thursday afternoon.
According to preliminary reports, at approximately 1:30 p.m., firefighters were called to the River Drive side of the river after they received reports of individuals in the water.
Upon arrival, they found a woman and child in the water after they had fallen through the ice. Police say the pair were safely rescued and brought to shore.
Paterson and Wallington assisted Elmwood Park in the rescue.
It is not clear why the mother and child were on the ice.
