Maplewood and Irvington Township Police Departments are on the scene of a shooting that had a male victim rushed to University Hospital in Newark this morning -Sunday-.
Details are developed but according to preliminary on the scene reports, family members of the victim say just before 11:30 a.m., a male suspect approached the victim near the corner of Florence and Clinton avenues and began to unload shots in his direction.
The victim then fell in the 1400 block of Clinton Avenue where several police units arrived and immediately contacted EMS.
We could not immediately confirm the exact location of the shooting as police placed about a dozen evidence markers between the two municipalities.
Timberland boots and a jacket, that possibly belonged to the victim, was just at the intersection of Clinton and Florence -closer to the Newark border- but Newark Police units were not in the area.
Police closed off Clinton Avenue in both directions at Irvington and Florence avenues.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
