Authorities are on the scene of a police-involved shooting in Newark's South Ward at this time.
According to preliminary information, police opened fire on the suspect after a confrontation near 117 Lyons Avenue just before 7:30 a.m.
The investigation found that as the officer attempted to approach that vehicle, the driver tried to use that car as a weapon.
The victim fled the scene but was swiftly apprehended in the rear of 123 Lyons Avenue.
EMS transported the victim to University Hospital in stable condition and there were no officers injured, reports said.
Circumstances behind the shooting are under investigation at this time.
The Essex County Prosector's Office has been notified.
