There is an active crime scene established and an investigation underway into a pedestrian strike in Irvington that has the victim fighting for their life at a hospital this evening.
According to preliminary reports, it happened just before 6:10 p.m. near the intersection of Quabeck and Union avenues where emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a person down at that location.
When police and EMS arrived, they found the unidentified person suffering severe head injuries after a car struck them then sped away from the scene.
The victim was rushed to University Hospital in Newark for treatment and remains in critical condition.
Police believe that a beige SUV with front end damage and a smashed windshield fled the scene towards Maplewood.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has been called to the scene to assist in the investigation.
The driver of the car remains at-large.
