Firefighters are on the scene of a multi-alarm fire that ignited inside a house in Hillside this evening.
Heavy fire tore through the roof of 128 Baltimore Avenue just before 7:30 p.m. sending firefighters from several municipalities to the scene where they encountered intense flames ripping through the two-story wood framed house.
Fire command struck a third alarm when fire began to extend to neighboring homes.
Crews were able to gain control of the blaze in about a half hour with a primary search of the structure for trapped or injured occupants coming back negative.
Garwood, Roselle, Elizabeth, Union, and Irvington were among several companies that provided mutual assistance.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation. Township officials are reporting that the residence is a fraternity house from Kean University.
