Police are currently investigating a shots fired incident near Lead Charter School in Newark’s Central Ward, which prompted a lockdown of the building.Multiple rounds of gunfire were reported near Bergen Street and South Orange Avenue, drawing a significant police presence.
Upon arrival, officers found shell casings in the area but did not locate any victims.
After a thorough canvassing of the area, no injuries were reported.
School officials immediately placed the building on lockdown as a precaution.
Authorities are now searching for the shooter, who fled the scene and remains at large.Police are also checking local hospitals for any potential walk-in gunshot victims as part of the investigation.
