Union County authorities are investigating a reported police-involved shooting that occurred in an Elizabeth neighborhood overnight.
Details are continuing to develop regarding what exactly happened but according to preliminary reports, the incident happened in the area of Walnut and Mary streets at approximately 1:20 a.m. where at least one suspect reportedly attempted to rob a man who was an off-duty police officer.
Preliminary reports say the officer fired at least one round in the direction of the suspect forced him to sprint from the scene.
The suspect as described as a black male with dreadlocks who wore a white and red shirt with jean shorts when he ran towards Trinity Place immediately after gunfire rang out.
Authorities have not confirmed what agency the officer worked for at this time.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
