The body of a male found laying on a street in East Orange had detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office on the scene investigating.
Police were called to the area of North 15th Street and 4th Avenue -just outside the Bakery Village Apartments- before 8 a.m. when residents reportedly observed the fully clothed male laying on the frigid ground unconscious and unresponsive.
A spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office confirmed the findings and is working on providing further information shortly.
The identity of the vicitm has not been released at this time.
The State Regional Medical Examiners Office offcials were on the scene assisting in the investigation.
ECPO UPDATE 11:17 a.m. "At approximately 6:30 a.m., East Orange police officers discovered an unresponsive male on the ground in the area of North 15th Street and 4th Avenue.
The male was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim, who is unidentified at this time, was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:48 am, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit".
