The Union County Prosecutor’s Office has taken over an investigation started by Elizabeth Police into a stabbing that left one person dead early Saturday morning.
According to a statement released by Elizabeth city spokesperson Kelly Martins, the incident happened in the 500 block of Elizabeth Avenue, where police responded to reports of a stabbing before 4:30 a.m.
According to Spokeswoman Martins, the unidentified victim was transported to University Hospital, where doctors pronounced the injured male dead a short time later.
According to Spokeswoman Martins, the incident is believed to start with a fight that erupted at that location, but the motive has not been determined at this time.
Elizabeth Police detained a suspect with a head wound and another male with a stab wound who subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.
