New Jersey's Attorney General has been notified of a police-involved shooting with fatal injuries in Jersey City Saturday night.
Details regarding what occurred during the encounter are under an active and ongoing investigation, but preliminary reports from the scene indicated that at approximately 11:10 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired.
Officers arrived and requested EMs to rush to the scene after they found a person suffering severe gunshot wounds.
A police officer opened fire on the victim for an unspecified reason.
The person was taken to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment but was later pronounced dead by medical professionals.
Officers from Jersey City Police and The US Marshals Service were on the scene during the shooting, but authorities have not immediately confirmed which department fired their weapons at this time.
No officers were seriously injured during the incident.
