The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed a crash that resulted in fatal injuries in Newark's downtown Tuesday morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, the two-vehicle violent collision happened before 5 a.m. near the intersection of Broad and Pennington.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found occupants pinned in the vehicles with severe injuries.
After disengaging the victims from the vehicle, Essex County Prosecutor's Office officials confirmed one person was killed in the crash.
Several others were taken to University Hospital suffering various injuries.
The investigation into what caused the crash is active and ongoing.
