The New Jersey Department of Labor has announced that minimum wage for most businesses will rise to $11 an hour from $10 beginning Jan. 1, which is apart of a plan to get wages in the state to $15 an hour by 2024.
According to Department of Labor officials, the hike will give most of the state's lowest-paid workers an immediate 10% raise.
But employers around NJ are complaining that the increase in wage will force an increase in consumer prices and slow down hiring to absorb the cost.
According to a published report USA Today, "New Jersey is one of two-dozen states that will increase the minimum wage. Reporters for USA Today said about 17 cities and counties, including New York City, already have reached $15 an hour".
