According to a statement released by Elizabeth Spokesperson Kelly Martins, at around 8 p.m. Monday night, firefighters were dispatched to assist police after they received reports of a possible body in the Elizabeth River directly behind Engine Co. #1 on Broad St.
According to Spokeswoman Martins, firefighters searched the river but had to discontinue the search due to the rising tide.
Crews resumed the search this morning at low tide and located a deer carcass in the river.
The deceased deer was removed and discarded properly according to Spokeswoman Martins.
