An early morning high-speed police pursuit that ended in a violent crash in Jersey City on Tuesday ended the life of a deaf man who waited at a bus stop after leaving work.
According to the Hudson County Prosecutor's office sheriff's officer on patrol spotted a vehicle speeding and running traffic lights on Kennedy Boulevard near Clinton Avenue at around 4:45 a.m.
Authorities said officers then radioed that the driver refused to stop when a short time later, the car collided with another vehicle.
The SUV crashed through a bus stop after it jumped the curb and struck Mr. Umar King, 33, of Jersey City on the sidewalk. King was deaf and was not aware of the out of control car that was heading towards the bus stop.
Authorities said medical staff pronounced King dead at the scene.
Police took a 16-year-old boy into custody after he was seen running from the scene with two other males who remains at-large.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
