The Essex County Prosecutor's Office was notified of a violent stabbing that left a man dead in Newark's South Ward on Thursday night.
A preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 8:15 p.m., officials at University Hospital notified Newark Police of an unidentified man who entered the emergency room suffering multiple stab wounds in his stomach.
Police arrived at the hospital and learned that the victim suffered their injury at an address in the 400 block of Avon Avenue near the intersection of South 19th Street.
Medical professionals' attempts to revive the victim were unsuccessful. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office confirmed with RLS Media that the man was pronounced dead before 9 p.m.
The circumstances behind the stabbing and the motive remain under an active and ongoing investigation.
No arrests have been immediately reported by authorities.
