The Union County Prosecutor's Office has been notified of a shooting that killed a person inside Warinanco Park on Sunday night.
Officials have not released much information, but just before 8 p.m., county police were dispatched to the Roselle side of the park, just over the Elizabeth line, to investigate reports of suspicious activity.
Upon arrival, officers found an unidentified person suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The motive behind the fatal shooting is under active investigation.
Police taped off much of the park while conducting their investigation.
Residents in the area told RLS Media that they saw police questioning an African American male at the scene, but it is unclear if the person was detained or arrested.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
