The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation of a shooting that killed a person in Paterson on Tuesday night.
A preliminary investigation indicated that at approximately 9:10 p.m., police were dispatched to the intersection of Auburn and Fair Street to investigate reports of a person shot.
Upon arrival, officers requested EMS to rush to the scene after finding the victim suffering a bullet wound in the back.
While police taped off the area, EMS rushed the unidentified person to St. Joseph's Medical Center, where doctors made the pronouncement after attempting to treat the victim.
Police learned that the victim was shot in the area of Van Houten and Summer streets before being transported by private vehicle to Fair Street.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation and no arrests have been reported.
