Authorities in Essex County are investigating a fatal shooting of a woman that occurred overnight in a Newark neighborhood.
The incident took place just before 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of 4th Avenue and North 12th Street.
Responding to reports of gunfire, Newark Police arrived at the scene and discovered evidence of a shooting, including ballistic materials on the ground.
This prompted the establishment of a crime scene. The woman was urgently transported to University Hospital, where medical personnel administered CPR during the journey.
Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation to determine the motive behind the attack.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
