Authorities in Newark are investigating a fatal pedestrian strike at a busy Central Ward intersection Tuesday night.
Emergency responders were called to Central Avenue and 1st Street around 7:40 p.m. following reports of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers found an unidentified person who had sustained critical injuries after being struck.
The individual was pronounced dead a short time later at the scene.
The vehicle involved reportedly remained at the location, and no further details about the driver have been released.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has been notified of the active and ongoing investigation into the incident.
