Union County authorities are investigating the cause of a crash that killed one person in Hillside Saturday night.
According to preliminary information, emergency responders and rescue crews were dispatched to the area of North Broad Street and Hillside Avenue to investigate reports of a crash with injuries and trapped occupants.
Upon arrival, firefighters began extricating one person trapped inside a severely damaged car near the Walgreens Pharmacy. Police reportedly pulled the first person from the car before firefighters made it to the scene.
One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene while EMS transported a second person to an area hospital for treatment.
The cause of the crash has not been determined at this time.
