Deadly Crash Under Investigation in Newark’s South Ward

Authorities in Essex County are investigating a fatal car crash that occurred early Sunday morning in Newark’s South Ward.

According to police, the incident took place shortly before 3 a.m. in the 600 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue, near Haynes Avenue. Officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of a serious vehicle collision.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found one individual suffering from severe injuries. 

Despite efforts to save them, the unidentified victim was pronounced dead a short time later.

A section of Frelinghuysen Avenue near Weequahic Park was temporarily closed as investigators worked to determine the cause of the crash. 

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain unclear, and no further information has been released.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
