The Essex County Prosecutor's Office was on the scene of a crash that resulted in fatal injuries on a highway in Newark Sunday.
It happened just before 3 a.m. on Route 1&9 near Delancy Street.
Police arrived on the scene and closed all northbound lanes after they found the crash scene with two severely injured victims inside a vehicle.
At least one of the victims was a confirmed fatality and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision caused delays on the highway while police waited for the arrival of NJDOT to assist in traffic control.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
