Residents in Newark and the North Jersey region woke up to bitterly cold temperatures this morning, with the thermometer registering at 14 degrees.
Wind chill values made it feel even colder at 7 degrees, creating dangerous conditions for those venturing outdoors.
In other parts of North Jersey, the cold is even more severe. Sussex County felt like -2 degrees, Morristown 2 degrees, Haledon 4 degrees, and Mahwah -1 degrees.
The National Weather Service warns that this dangerous cold will persist over the next two days, with any exposed skin at risk of frostbite.
While winds are not as strong, the frigid air makes it feel much colder. Most of New Jersey is under the grip of these freezing conditions, and temperatures this afternoon are expected to peak at only 20 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service, today will see increasing clouds and a high near 20, with wind chill values between zero and 10 degrees.
Tonight, temperatures will drop further, with lows around 10 degrees and wind chill values between zero and 5 degrees.
Residents are urged to bundle up and limit time outdoors to avoid exposure to the cold. Stay safe and warm, New Jersey!
