Police in Newark's East Ward are investigating an assault that sent one person to the hospital suffering critical injuries early this morning.
Reports of an assault in progress sent officers to the single digit block of Hawkins Street at around 3 a.m. where units found the victim suffering a serious head injury at that location.
The heavily bleeding victim was rushed to University Hospital where they were listed in critical condition as of 4:45 a.m.
Police setup a crime scene and believes that the assault was domestic.
The identity or gender of the victim has not been released at this time.
There were no immediate reports of arrests made.
