Gunfire erupted inside an apartment in the tens block of Ridgewood Ave. sending several police units to the scene to investigate at around 2:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers found a male victim around the age of 30-years-old seriously injured, suffering a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
EMS rushed the man to University Hospital where he was reported to be in critical condition. A brief foot pursuit of a possible male suspect was reportedly unsuccessful.
The shooting is under investigation by The Newark Police Department.
