A vehicle that lost control and fell down an embankment on the westbound side of Rt. 46 near Rt. 23 in Wayne had one person injured.
The crashed occurred a little after 4:30 a.m. when first responders arrived to the scene to find a car had somehow left the roadway then crashed about 200 feet down the embankment.
Rescue crews pulled one person from the vehicle using a stoke basket to lift the victim to leveled ground.
EMS transported the male victim to St. Josephs Hospital in Paterson unconscious, suffering serious injuries.
State Police shut down all westbound lanes on Rt. 46 for the rescue operation and the investigation.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
