Couple Indicted in Connection to the Death of Two-Year-Old Boy in Newark

A couple has been indicted  in connection to the death of a two-year-old boy in Newark.

Najee Culley, 20, and Ryckia Murray, 21, (mother of child) were indicted on last week in connection with the death of Jaseer Murray.

According to officials, on Oct. 17, 2014, Culley was at Murray's Halstead Street home where he was left alone with child for approximately 14 hours that day.

Murray who arrived home around 10 p.m. found child in bed. At approximately 10:30 a.m. the next day, the boy was found unresponsive. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after.

A medical examiner determined the boy died from blunt force trauma ruling case a homicide. 

During a June 2 hearing, medical examiner found that the child's muscle had been torn away from the bone and as a result the child bled out.

Culley and Murray remain in the Essex County Correctional Facility in lieu of $200,000 and $75,000 bail, respectively.
