Get ready for an exciting summer adventure as the historic and scenic Highlands Natural Pool opens for the season on Saturday, May 25, 2024.Nestled in the Highlands Region of northern New Jersey, this Olympic-sized, stream-fed swimming pool is located adjacent to The New Weis Center and Norvin Green State Forest.
According to Highlands Natural Pool's website, this hidden gem has been named the best swimming hole in New Jersey.
What makes it unique is its natural, chemical-free water treatment, offering a refreshing and eco-friendly swimming experience in a beautiful wooded setting.
The website said the pool's history dates back to 1935 when the New York chapter of The Nature Friends carved it out of a hillside and originally called it Camp Midvale.
Today, it confirms the community's dedication to preserving natural beauty and providing a serene retreat for all.
Whether you're a local resident or a visitor, there's plenty to do at Highlands Natural Pool. Besides swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing, you can enjoy a variety of activities:
Picnic: Just outside the pool area, a Picnic Grove with tables and charcoal grills awaits you.
Sports: The New Weis Center property has a beach sand volleyball court and ping-pong tables adjacent to the pool.
Hiking: The pool is next to Norvin Green State Forest, which offers trails with scenic vistas overlooking the New York City skyline, the Wanaque reservoir, and the Ramapo mountains.
Some trails lead to waterfalls, abandoned farm dwellings, and historic iron mines for exploration.
