As of Saturday morning, temperatures in downtown Newark are hovering around 36 degrees, with light rain falling steadily.

Residents are advised to bundle up and bring an umbrella if heading out, as cold, wet weather is expected to persist for much of the day.

According to the National Weather Service, higher elevations and northern parts of the state—including Sussex, Morris, and Passaic counties—are experiencing accumulating snow, with temperatures in those areas hovering closer to the freezing mark.

The forecast for today calls for rain continuing until around 2 p.m., followed by periods of drizzle or light rain into the afternoon.

Meteorologists say the high temperature will reach just 42 degrees, with a brisk north wind at 14 to 16 mph and gusts up to 31 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%.

Tonight, a chance of light rain or drizzle lingers until around 11 p.m., followed by mostly cloudy skies and an overnight low near 39 degrees.
