Due to heavy smoke/haze from raging wildfires in Canada, Supt. Roger Leon and Newark officials have ordered all school and Central offices closed Thursday, June 8, 2023.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued a code red Air Quality Action Day for Fine Particulates until midnight Thursday.
NWS meteorologists say Thursday’s air quality will result in the worst conditions -in history- since air quality records were first recorded in 1990.
Please be safe, stay inside, and if you must leave, please wear a mask to protect your breathing.
City officials are hoping to resume regular classes and school business on Friday.
