Clinton Hill Community Action (CHCA) is excited to announce the launch of its inaugural senior-sponsored cookout as part of the Seniors in Action program. This community event, funded by the Grotto Foundation and AARP, marks a significant milestone for CHCA.
The cookout will take place on Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 12 PM to 3 PM at the Soundstage, located at the corner of Clinton and Peshine Avenue in Newark.
According to officials at CHCA, who told RLS Media in a statement, this event aims to keep seniors in the neighborhood engaged, informed, and integrated into the vibrant Clinton Hill community.
"It’s almost like they've just been waiting for the opportunity to lend their voices this entire time," said Shakur Gibson, Resident Power Builder and Program Manager at CHCA.
The Seniors in Action group consists of highly active community members from Clinton Hill's senior buildings and private homes.
Officials said the group meets twice a month to engage in activities and discuss important issues such as safety, technology, recreation, and community concerns.
In addition to their regular meetings, the Seniors in Action members participate in various CHCA initiatives, including neighborhood cleanups with Beautify the Block, volunteering at the artsXchange, and collaborating with the Housing Justice Action Team.
The upcoming “Seniors Day Out Cookout and Game Day” is the first event planned entirely by the seniors themselves.
They look forward to a day of fellowship, food, and fun and warmly invite the community to attend.
The event is free and open to the public, with food and community resources available to all attendees.
