In the early hours of November 24, 2023, Clifton Police officers responded to a triggered alarm at Morre Lyons Jewelers in the Richfield Shopping Center.
Arriving at around 2:30 a.m., they encountered an individual, later identified as Iver Veramiranda, 30, of Clifton, emerging from the back of the store.
Upon noticing the officers, Veramiranda retreated into the store. A perimeter was quickly established, covering the entire shopping center due to interconnected access points between the businesses.
After an extensive search lasting several hours, officers found Veramiranda hiding under a pile of boxes in the basement of a nearby business.
He was arrested and charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Weapons Possession (including a knife, saw, and crowbar), and Theft. Remarkably, all stolen jewelry, valued at $93,000, was recovered.
Further investigation, spurred by communication devices found at the time of arrest, hinted at the involvement of an accomplice.
This led to the identification of Veramiranda's mother, 59-year-old Juana Miranda of Paterson, as his getaway driver during the crime.
She has since been charged with the same offenses as her son and was arrested last night on Lindale Ct, Clifton, by a Clifton Patrolman.
