Clifton Man Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run in Passaic

A Clifton man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on April 10, 2024, at the intersection of Passaic Avenue and Aycrigg Avenue in Passaic.Ad According to a statement released by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, 33-year-old Grzegorz Wolak was charged with second-degree leaving the scene of an accident.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:13 p.m., when Rachel McNeil, a 58-year-old Passaic resident, was struck by a red Ford Explorer.

McNeil was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries two days later, on April 12, 2024.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, but detectives later determined that Wolak was the registered owner and operator of the Ford Explorer at the time of the crash, according to a statement released by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Wolak is currently in custody and awaiting his first court appearance at Central Judicial Processing.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pre-trial detention, which a Superior Court judge will hear at a later date.AdIf convicted, Wolak could be sentenced to five to ten years in prison for leaving the scene of an accident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
