Authorities in Clifton announced that on Tuesday, April 25th, a 68-year-old parking enforcement officer for the City was issuing a summons to a parked vehicle on Madison Avenue.

According to officials, while doing so, the vehicle owner came from a nearby residence and approached the officer.

Authorities say the suspect, who was irate, then stepped on the officer's shoes, placed him in a bear hug, and threatened to kill the officer and his family.

The suspect then ripped the ticket book from the officer and removed all four copies of the summons in question before driving off.

According to officials, the officer was shaken up but not injured.

Based on the course of events, a warrant was generated for the arrest of the suspect, later identified as Dimitrios K. Rezitis, 37, of Montague.

He turned himself in later in the day and was transported to the county jail.

He was charged with Simple Assault, Obstruction, Terroristic Threats, Destruction of Evidence, and Hindering Apprehension.
