According to information released by the office, a Cliffside Park emergency medical technician (EMT) has been arrested for allegedly destroying patient care records following an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Darren E. Jacobs, 20, of Yonkers, New York, was taken into custody on January 30, 2025, in Paramus and charged with fourth-degree purposeful destruction, alteration, or falsification of medical records.

The arrest follows an inquiry led by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under Chief Matthew Finck.

Authorities began investigating after the office’s Confidential Investigations Unit received a report on November 22, 2024, about potential tampering with emergency medical service records in Cliffside Park.

The subsequent probe revealed that between September and November 2024, Jacobs, while employed by Cliffside Park EMS, allegedly destroyed multiple patient care reports.

Officials have not disclosed a possible motive or whether the altered records impacted patient care.

The case remains under investigation.
