Newark and the North Jersey region are kicking off the weekend with a chilly but dry Saturday morning, as early risers bundle up for a brisk start to the day.
Temperatures in Downtown Newark registered around 36 degrees at sunrise, and the wind is making it feel just a touch above freezing.
Despite the cold start, residents can expect a noticeable warm-up by the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, sunny skies will dominate much of the day, with highs reaching near 61 degrees.
While there's a slight chance of showers after 5 p.m. (about a 30% chance), the overall forecast calls for pleasant conditions.
A heavy coat will serve you well if you're heading out to grab coffee, walk the dog, or run errands this morning, a heavy jacket will serve you well.
But lighter layers will be enough by midday as the sun shines and temperatures climb, lighter layers will be sufficient by midday.

Tonight, skies will clear with lows dipping to around 30 degrees, and only a slight chance of showers before 8 p.m.
Enjoy your Saturday, New Jersey!
