Ocean County authorities have confirmed the death of a child that resulted from a crash on a highway in Lakewood Township Saturday night.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the collision happened just before 10:20 p.m. at exit 89 in Lakewood.
NJ State Police arrived at the scene and found the overturned car with the female driver and child out of the vehicle.
The unidentified boy -around 9-yers old- was administered CPR at the scene then rushed to Ocean Medical Center in Brick, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
NJ State Police and Ocean County authorities closed that portion of the highway to conduct a fatal crash investigation.
There were no other severe injuries reported.
