Police and The New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency are investigating after a driver observed a baby boy crawling across a busy New Jersey road on Saturday night.
According to the driver, 41-year-old Cory Cannon, the child was unharmed when he spotted the baby at around 6 p.m. on Joe Parker Road in Lakewood.
Cannon reported that he thought the object was a toy at first, but when he saw the child moving, he got out of his car to stop traffic.
According to Cannon, he was then approached by a resident, who took the little boy and returned him to his family.
Police have confirmed an investigation into the matter.
Police say a further investigation revealed that the infant might have left home through a door that was left unsecured by an older sibling.
The family of the child was unaware that he had left until the neighbor returned him according to police.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
