Cardiology Leader from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Rutgers Elected to American Society of Echocardiography Board

Dr. Kameswari Maganti, MD, FACC, FASE, a distinguished Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Disease and Hypertension at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS), has been elected to the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) Board of Directors.AdDr. Maganti, who also serves as Section Chief of Non-Invasive Cardiology and Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH), will begin her two-year term in July 2024.

The official announcement of all incoming board members was made at the June 2024 Scientific Sessions plenary event held in Portland, Oregon.

Dr. Maganti expressed her enthusiasm for the new role, stating, “I am proud to be elected to this leadership role to help shape practice standards and advance this important discipline within the field of cardiology. It’s an honor to serve with my colleagues on the Board to enhance the profile of echocardiography through the sharing of best practices and exchanging ideas to elevate our field.”

Dr. Partho Sengupta, Henry Rutgers Professor of Cardiology, Chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Disease and Hypertension at RWJMS, and Chief of Cardiology at RWJUH, praised the appointment.

“Dr. Maganti is an excellent choice to serve on this Board. She has a proven track record of dedicating her career to promoting this discipline through research, teaching, and sharing her knowledge and expertise with her peers at scientific meetings worldwide,” he said.

The ASE Board of Directors, consisting of 20 voting members who are cardiovascular ultrasound specialists, is elected through a nomination process open to all voting members and ratified by the organization's membership.

ASE is the largest global organization for cardiovascular ultrasound imaging, setting practice standards and guidelines for the field since its founding in 1975.

Before her current roles at RWJUH and RWJMS, Dr. Maganti held various professorship and directorship positions in cardiovascular imaging, echocardiography, multimodality imaging, and cardiac rehabilitation in both academic and hospital settings.

She earned her medical degree from Guntur Medical College in India in 1991 and completed her internship, residency, and fellowship programs at several prestigious institutions, including the University of California, Weiss Memorial Hospital, University of Nebraska Medical Center, and Northwestern University.AdNationally recognized as a leader in non-invasive cardiology, Dr. Maganti is esteemed by her peers and students alike for her passionate and dedicated teaching.

She has received numerous best teacher awards over her 20-year tenure at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she served in various leadership capacities.

Dr. Maganti’s election to the ASE Board of Directors marks a significant milestone in her illustrious career, promising to bring her extensive experience and commitment to excellence in cardiovascular ultrasound to the forefront of the field.
