Police in Plainfield are investigating a crash that had a car crash into a building in the city late last night.
According to authorities, at approximately 10:10 pm, Plainfield Police Officers responded to the area of Watchung Avenue and East 2nd Street for a reported motor vehicle accident.
Upon arrival, officers found a Toyota Camry, which had crashed into the southeast corner building (200 Watchung Avenue), causing significant damage to the building and storefront.
Authorities said the driver had minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital but there were no other injuries reported.
The Plainfield Fire Division determined that the building's structure was damaged, at which time the entire building was evacuated.
A City Construction Official also responded to the scene and determined that it was not safe for anyone to re-enter the building, therefore condemning it, until the structure damage was repaired authorities said.
The residents of the building were relocated to a hotel by the building landlord. Barricades were set up around the building for safety purposes.
The Plainfield Police Traffic Unit will continue the investigation.
