Car Plunges into Passaic River in Newark

Newark Emergency responder contingency pulled a man out of the water of the Passaic River after he reportedly drove a car that left the roadway and entered the water in downtown Newark.

According to preliminary reports, police and rescue crews were called to the area of the FBI building on Centre Street at approximately 2:10 a.m. after receiving reports of a car that was observed in the water.

Crews arrived at the scene where they observed a man holding on to a pier in the water reports said.

University Hospital rescue crews and Newark Firefighters were able to get the man to safety where EMS transported him to the hospital for observation.

It is not clear what caused the man’s vehicle to leave the roadway at this time.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
