Plainfield Police Division are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash at the intersection of West 9th Street and Arlington Avenue.
Preliminary investigation reveals that a minivan traveling South on Arlington Avenue collided with a Ford Taurus that was traveling east bound on West 9th Street.
The crash caused the minivan to rollover which resulted in the death of a 10-year-old girl.
The van, driven by an adult female, had six juvenile passengers - ranging between ages of six to sixteen - including the 10-year-old girl.
The Ford Taurus was driven by an adult male, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
All individuals were taken to area hospitals for treatment.
There were no injuries to pedestrians within the area.
The identities of the injured individuals will not be released pending notification of next of kin.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Plainfield Police Division Traffic Unit and the Union County Police Traffic Investigation Team.
According to authorities, there have been rumors circulating that this was a result of a police chase involving a stolen vehicle. That rumor is not true and police had no involvement in this crash.
Additionally, neither of the involved vehicles had been reported stolen.
