Utility crews spent the overnight repairing poles after a car lost control and slammed into them in Newark's South Ward.
According to police, the collision happened at approximately 12:40 a.m. in the vicinity of 154 Hawthorne Avenue.
Police say the car crashed into the poles causing a transformer explosion and powerlines to fall to the ground.
Firefighters were able to swiftly extinguish the blaze while PSEG workers cut the power off in the area.
There were no severe injuries immediately reported and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
