Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson reported a Camden teen has been sentenced to 30 years in state prison in connection with the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old boy.
Casche Alford, 18, previously pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree aggravated manslaughter in the shooting death of Nathaniel Plummer, Jr. of Camden.
The sentence was imposed by Superior Court Judge Steven J. Polansky on January 13, 2017.
Alford was charged with fatally shooting Plummer in the area of Beacon and Line streets in Camden on January 7, 2016.
Camden County Police had responded at approximately 11:15 p.m. that night in reference to a ShotSpotter activation and 911 calls reporting a shooting. Officers arrived and located the victim lying on the sidewalk.
He was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 12:14 a.m. on January 8, 2016.
During the plea hearing in November 2016, Assistant Prosecutor Lauren Pratter presented text messages that placed Alford at the scene of the homicide.
The handgun used in the shooting was also recovered by CCPO Detective Peter Longo during the execution of a search warrant.
Alford, who was 17 at the time of the homicide, had voluntarily waived up to adult court on this case along with two other separate cases.
In one case, she was sentenced to seven years in state prison on one count of second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery for the December 27, 2015 armed robbery of a taxi cab driver. In the other case, she was sentenced to seven years in state prison on one count of second-degree aggravated assault for the October 30, 2015 non-fatal shooting of a city man.
Under the No Early Release Act, Alford will be required to serve 85 percent of her sentence before she would be eligible for parole.
All of her sentences will run concurrent.
